The Big 3-0

John and I decided we would have "low-key" birthdays this year....no big gifts, stay home and celebrate, etc.  So, John's big day was on a Thursday.  He woke up to black balloons in his car, a card and a banner on the mantle, cake at work from co-workers, and ended the day with take-out and his choice of a movie along with his favorite cake.  I knew the whole day he was waiting, hoping, that we were doing something more, but I laughed it off that we were "keeping things simple this year".
Little did John know that Thursday and Friday our family was making their way to Katy for a big surprise birthday weekend.  I was about to die over keeping a secret from him...hiding groceries and decorations, making hushed phone calls, all to coordinate the big surprise.  And boy was he surprised.  He walked in from work and the kitchen was full of family.... Pops and CC, Aunt Jo and Uncle Dan, Marge and Big D, Rae and Bob, and Corinne (we missed LA and Chris and Jenn and Cale!)...all in our matching green t-shirts (thanks Big D!).

And so began a fun-filled weekend for John!
As the shock wore off, we ordered pizza, ate Aunt Jo's delicious birthday cake, played games, and had a great night.

Saturday we all went to lunch at Rudy's , followed by a trip to the movies.

Presents were opened that afternoon, and then the big birthday dinner that night.  We enjoyed Mexican and fun times with family and friends.

The Kueven crew headed back Sunday while the rest of us went to an Astros game.

We finished the night with take-out, more board games, and one last trip to the movies by John and Robert.  My family left on Monday (my birthday) so I got in a birthday lunch with them before they hit the road.

I can't believe we pulled off the surprise.  It was a fabulous weekend spent with those we love the most.
