First Haircut

I put it off for as long as I could.  I told John I was at least waiting until he turned one before I cut his hair.  Well, last weekend I realized that his cute little curls were getting so long they weren't curling anymore...he was starting to get a mullet/rat tail in the back! Ha. So on Monday, August 27, I took Chance for his fist haircut.
I had no clue where to take him so I went to my trusty friend Google.  Upon several searches, I kept seeing "Snip-Its" pop up, so off we went.

I had very low expectations for how this would go.  Would Chance scream, wiggle uncontrollably so the haircut was impossible?? I knew I wouldn't have much control.  I did make sure we went right after lunch so he was full and well before nap time so he wouldn't be sleepy.  This place didn't take appointments so I wasn't sure if we would have to wait.  Thankfully we walked right in and were able to sit down immediately.

He sat in my lap facing me, which worked great.  He never even made a peep.  The lady was so nice and was aware that I was on the verge of tears at any moment.  She talked to me the whole time and did not get scissor happy, instead asking me about each snip... "is this okay?" "a little more or is that enough?".  I was so thankful!!

Chance did great (and I did too).  He left with a pack of dino stickers and I had a few of his curls.  We were both happy campers!

A Look Back

In my sentimental state over Chance turning one, here is a look back over the last year.

ONE

Well I'm sure you won't be surprised with how this post begins....
WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?? Seriously, this year has flown by!  I can't believe my little Chancey man is one!!

What a joy this sweet boy is.  He is happy 98% of the time and the other 2% is pretty much when he is hungry or tired.  I love how easily amused he is and also how serious he gets when he is trying to figure something out.

Since we got back from MS, Toby and Chance have become best friends.  They have always been buddies but now they play together all day!  Chance pulls on Toby's rope toy, Toby chases Chance's ball, and they love giving each other kisses.  It is the cutest thing to watch Chance crawl over to him and just lay on top of Toby to give him a "hug".

At the beginning of the month, Chance was drinking 3 (8oz) bottles of formula everyday along with 3 meals and 1 or 2 snacks.  About a week ago we made the transition to whole milk.  He also has dropped the mid-day bottle and now drinks that milk from a sippy cup.  We are working to get rid of the other two.  He is such a good eater and I hope this never changes.  He eats lots of fruits and vegetables, along with whatever John and I happen to be eating.  The only things I feed him are his oatmeal and yogurt, other than that he feeds himself.  He also now only uses the paci for sleeping.  Thankfully this was a very easy transition and even now sometimes he goes to sleep without it.

We try to go out and do something at least once a day.  We go to the park several times a week and Chance loves strolling.  He was taking such good morning and afternoon naps, but lately those have been not so predictable!  I really hesitate to write this but Chance is sleeping really good at night.  He goes to bed around 7:00 and sleeps until 6/6:30.  He may wake up for a few minutes every now and then, but he puts himself back to sleep...which is wonderful!!

Chancey is such a big boy.  His favorite thing to say is still "dada" but he does say "mama" and his newest word is "night night".  Some days he babbles and talks to me all day and I would just love to know what he is saying!  We don't go for his check up until later in the month, but from standing on the bathroom scale with him, I think Chance weighs around 24-25 pounds.  He is currently wearing 12-18 month clothes.  He still hasn't really worn shoes yet since he's not walking.

Since we wouldn't be with our family on Chance's actual birthday, we had a little early celebration before we left Meridian in July.  He got to open some presents and Aunt Jo made him a cake.  She used the same teddy bear cake pan she used when John turned one.  We had fun celebrating a couple weeks early!

I still can't believe it's been a year.  I love my little family of three more than anything.  It's hard to even imagine our life before Chance now...seriously, what did we used to do??!?  God has blessed John and me more through our precious boy than we ever could have imagined.  So thankful for my happy, healthy boy!

Birthday Week

Chance's birthday week started off a little differently than I had planned.  Over the weekend he developed a rash, so we had a doctor's appointment first thing Monday morning (everything was fine....just a viral infection).  So, our first outing, while not so fun, ended with a lunch date with John!  Chance had his first Happy Meal and he absolutely loved it.

Tuesday we enjoyed a lazy day at home.  Chance and I stayed in our pjs, played, ate, napped, and had a nice relaxing day!

Wednesday was a gloomy, rainy day, so we loaded up and went to the Science museum.  We stayed for a couple of hours, looked at the live animal exhibit, played in the kids' discovery area, and ate lunch there.  Chance loved watching all the other kids there as much as he did playing!

Thursday was the big day!  We started his birthday off with a special breakfast at my favorite place... Dunkin Donuts!  Chance had his first bites of donut and (surprise surprise) he loved them.

John came home from work early and we opened presents, ate cupcakes, and then had a family dinner.

We gave him bath toys for his birthday, fed him an extra messy dinner, and then let him play, and play, and play in the tub.  It was a perfect ending to a great birthday!

Friday was a good mix of play and errands.  We went to our favorite park in the morning and then stopped by the grocery store on the way  home.  After lunch and nap time, we drove over to Target for a few other things.  Chance loves riding in the shopping cart.  He really loved it this time because we shared a box of animal crackers while we shopped.

I can't believe my boy is ONE!! We had a wonderful birthday week!
